The Real Thing original members – Chris Amoo and Dave Smith – are about to celebrate 50 incredible years in the music industry, and they’re still going strong, playing hundreds of gigs across the world, and a new music documentary due for release in cinemas in January 2020.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary next year, The Real Thing have a new Best Of album coming 10th January.
Featuring all the hits and a NEW previously-unreleased track ‘Someone Oughta Write a Song (About You Baby)

Pioneers in soul, funk and dance music, the two original members – Chris Amoo and Dave Smith – are now celebrating over 45 years in the music industry. Still gigging across the world, the band’s success and longevity is unprecedented in British entertainment history.

Formed in Toxteth, Liverpool in 1972, The Real Thing are Britain’s longest-established and best-loved black group in UK entertainment history. Best known for their legendary hits ‘You To Me Are Everything’, ‘Can’t Get By Without You’ and ‘Can You Feel the Force’, as well as their ground-breaking 1977 song, ‘Children of the Ghetto’, The Real Thing remain Britain’s most successful black group of all-time.

The Real Thing remain pioneers in soul, funk and dance music. Original members Chris Amoo and Dave Smith are now celebrating over 45 incredible years in the music industry, and they’re still going strong, playing hundreds of gigs across the world.

The Real Thing are a British soul group formed in the 1970s. In addition to a string of British hits, the band charted internationally with their song ‘You to Me Are Everything’, which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 28 on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart and No. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100. By number of sales, they were the most successful black rock/soul act in England during the 1970s. The journalist, author and founder of Mojo, Paul Du Noyer credits them alongside Deaf School with restoring “Liverpool’s musical reputation in the 1970s” with their success.

The Real Thing – Britain’s No 1 soul band, had three million selling hit singles in the 70s with ‘You To Me Are Everything’, ‘Can’t Get By Without You’ and ‘Can You Feel The Force’. In the 80s they were all remixed and became huge hits again, thanks to the band’s massive following.

Original vocalists, Chris Amoo and Dave Smith and their fantastic 5 piece band perform these hits alongside many more of their great songs such as ‘You’ll Never Know What You’re Missing’, ‘Whenever You Want My Love’ and ‘Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing’ which, in 2005, was sampled by Daft Punk and re-titled ‘So Much Love to Give’ and became a top 10 hit for The Freeloaders which featured The Real Thing, resulting in the band charting across three decades!

The band continue to tour up and down the country selling out venues and regularly performing at 70’s & 80’s festivals alongside such artists as Rick Astley, Boy George, Belinda Carlisle, Kool and the Gang and Chic.

Commenting on The Real Thing’s success, singer Chris Amoo said, “There’s always going to be a sense of nostalgia about our music. It’s the sound track to so many people’s lives and that will never die.”

Multi-million selling soul band The Real Thing are ready to give their much loved disco-inspired hits a new lease of life, with an extensive UK tour. Featuring the group’s two original vocalists Chris Amoo and Dave Smith, along with their 5-piece band, The Real Thing deliver a funky ‘in your face’ show with a strong ‘retro flavour’ with the band’s classic songs mixed with contemporary grooves.

Celebrating over 45 years in the music industry. As well as the success of their debut hit single ‘You to Me Are Everything’, these Liverpool lads boast three million selling hit singles including, ‘Can’t Get by Without You’, ‘Whenever You Want My Love’ and ‘Can You Feel the Force’, making them the UK’s best-selling black group of the late 70s.

In 1986 ‘You to Me Are Everything’, ‘Can’t Get by Without You’ and ‘Can You Feel the Force’ were all remixed and became huge hits once again, thanks to their huge club following.

In 2005, ‘Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing’ was sampled by French dance outfit Daft Punk and re-titled ‘So Much Love to Give’. The same year the Freeloaders had a UK Top 10 single with ‘So Much Love to Give’ which featured The Real Thing resulting in the band charting across 3 decades.

The Real Thing recently released ‘The Real Thing Live’ DVD and CD recorded at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool and celebrates 40 years on the road and includes the concert in full, new material and a cover of The Beatles song ‘Eleanor Rigby’.

The band continue to tour up and down the country selling out venues and regularly perform at 70’s & 80’s festivals alongside such artists as Rick Astley, Boy George, Belinda Carlisle, Kool and the Gang and Chic.
